Book Review: The Amazing Fruitables and the Ice Cream Thieves

Review by Ally Richmond and family, Toddle About West Northants

This was a bright, engaging read that kept both my girls completely hooked from start to finish. The characters are fun and memorable, the storyline is easy to follow, and the illustrations are vibrant and full of energy. It's a really great story portraying food as powerful fuel. I especially loved how teamwork and problem-solving were woven naturally into the adventure. The humour landed perfectly for younger readers, while the slightly more dramatic power-up scene really captured my 7-year-old’s imagination. They loved being able to name the fruits and vegetables and spot the hidden sprinkles throughout the story.

From my 5-year-old:

“I liked it when the thieves got caught and slipped on the peas because it was SO funny! I liked all the Fruitables because they worked together. It made me laugh and I want to read it again!”

From my 7-year-old:

“My favourite part was when they all grouped up and the ice cream started glowing so they could get their powers. That was really cool. I liked that they didn’t give up and worked as a team. The story was easy to understand and really exciting. I can read it on my own because the writing is big enough.”

A brilliant choice for World Book Week and shared reading at bedtime – colourful, positive and packed with fun. A solid 10/10 from all of us!
