We empower disabled young adults to create positive social change. Through their lived experience, our team of Inclusion Champions deliver training to schools, community groups and businesses.
Over 90% of our organisation is led by people with direct lived experience of disability and over 50% of employees are disabled people. Our work has been recognised by multiple national awards and 100% of attendees have recommended our training.
We also deliver projects to support communities locally and further afield, including a women-led empowerment group and an intergenerational reading project. We also deliver book-reading sessions, using children's books written by our Co-Founder, Alex Winstanley.
Alex Winstanley is a best-selling author and award-winning social entrepreneur from Wigan. Through his books, he raises awareness of a range of long-term health conditions, in a positive and supportive way, for children and young people.
He is extremely passionate about promoting a diverse and inclusive society, where every person is valued and celebrated. Each of his books are inspired by real people, as Alex believes nothing is more important than giving a voice to those with lived experience.
His first book, inspired by his grandma, won a Dementia Hero Award 2021! See Alex talking about his second book, 'My Uncle Has Depression', on ITV News here. See more on Alex's Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & website.
All book sales directly support the work of Happy Smiles Training CIC. See more about our nationally recognised work on our website or on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
