Hi, I'm Heather. I have two sons, work as a professional musician and music teacher, volunteer as a breastfeeding counsellor, and run Baby College Mid-Herts.

Unique Baby College classes offer a structured weekly development programme for parents and children from 0-3+ years, through stimulating, fun activities including music, counting, colour and shape game, baby signing, sensory and physical play.

Based on child development research by Alison Lawson, an associate of the Institute of Neuro-Physiological Psychology (INPP), the Baby College programme differs significantly from other classes aimed at this age group, building confidence in parents as they gain insights into child development while having fun with their babies.

  • Infants 0-9 months

Our Infant baby classes offer an insight into baby development to increase your confidence and understanding of your growing baby.  All our fun activities are suitable from birth with the exercises progressing as your baby grows.

  • ·Toddlers 9-18 months

Your older baby is now fascinated with the world around them so in this group additional learning themes are introduced and new skills are practiced.  Activities promote language and social skills and body awareness.

  •  Juniors 18-36 months

Our Junior programme is even more active, more emphasis is placed on encouraging confidence in physical and social skills and in supporting increased independence with fun and stimulating games.

Heather Birt - Baby College Teacher

I trained as a musician on viola and baroque violin, and have performed as a freelancer with various period music ensembles such as the Academy of Ancient Music and taught in several schools including, most recently, Wycombe Abbey.

I attended Baby College with my elder son Joshua. We both loved the sessions and took away many ideas for play, new songs to sing and valuable information about infant development and parenting. Support is vital for new parents and one of the strengths of Baby College is the lasting friendships that emerge from the classes.

I took over the Baby College Mid-Herts franchise in 2017. I love delivering the classes, and I find the balance of activities works really well, and the pace of the classes is just perfect for the children. I particularly enjoy the privilege of sharing with the parents in each class those special moments when their children start to develop and enjoy their new-found skills.

I run classes in St. Albans, Welwyn Garden City and Harpenden and I look forward to meeting you and your children and enjoying Baby College activities with you all.
