Review: Start-Rite Kicks Canvas Shoes, worth £29

I received the Start-Rite Kicks Canvas Shoes in toddler size 7 to review, for my little one, and they’ve been a brilliant everyday shoe. Finding the right shoes for toddlers can be a challenge, but these tick most boxes for comfort, durability, and ease of use.

The canvas material is lightweight and breathable, which has been great during warmer days. My little one's feet stay cool, and the shoes don’t seem restrictive when they’re running around. At the same time, the fabric feels strong and well-made. They’ve already survived a few walks to see the ducks, which resulted in putting them through a wash! They came out as good as new. So another big bonus is that they’re easy to clean – either a quick wipe or wash.

The fit is good. There’s enough room for growing toes without the shoes slipping off. However the sole isn't very flexible. So probably doesn't allow for natural movement as much as i would like, which is so important at this age. But the insole is rather spongey, which i assume makes them quite comfortable to wear. My little one seems really comfortable in them anyway, whether walking, climbing, or running, and the grippy sole gives me peace of mind on smoother surfaces.

One feature I particularly love is the double fastening. It makes getting shoes on and off quick and easy, and my little one manages it themselves with ease, which is a huge win on busy mornings. The straps also allow for easy adjustment, so you can get a nice snug fit.

Style-wise, they’re simple but really versatile. They go well with almost any outfit, from casual shorts and leggings to dresses, so they’ve become our go-to shoes for everyday wear.

My only gripe is they feel rather heavy for a toddler shoe. Probably on par with my little ones new thick wellies. If my little one was a bit wobbly on her feet, I personally would think twice about purchasing these.

Overall, I’d recommend the Start-Rite Kicks Canvas Shoes. They’re comfortable, practical, and easy for little ones to wear, post walking age.
