Review: Pleasurewood Hills celebrates its 40th anniversary year

Review written by Pia Howe, Toddle About Suffolk

We had the pleasure of visiting Pleasurewood Hills this weekend and it was an absolute blast! Our boys (7 and 12 years) are huge fans of amusement parks and real thrill seekers (we’ve trained them from a very young age! LOL)

The amusement park, nestled in a beautiful location in Lowestoft, Suffolk, offers a perfect blend of thrill rides, family-friendly attractions, and entertainment, making it an ideal destination for visitors of all ages.

From the moment we stepped inside the park, we the children were immediately captivated by the variety of rides and entertainment. The staff's warm welcome and helpfulness further added to the overall positive experience.

With a well-designed layout and clear signposts, navigating the park was a breeze, allowing us to make the most of our day.

Thrill-seekers, get ready for a wild ride! Pleasurewood Hills offers exhilarating roller coasters that are sure to get your heart racing. The “Wipeout”, “Marble Madness” and “Cannonball Express" roller coasters were personal favourites.

Families with young children will be pleased to find a host of kid-friendly attractions that promise endless smiles. The indoor soft play, "Kiddie Carousel,” “Flying Elephants" and "Wavebreaker" were just a few of the fantastic options tailored to entertain the little ones. Our 7 year old couldn’t get enough of the “Wavebreaker” which resulted in me walking up the tower several times - I definitely did get my steps in that day! The journey down in the dinghy is a lot more fun than the climb to the top.

One of the highlights of the day was the awe-inspiring live performance by Circus Hassani, showcasing their acrobatics skills and comedy. There are 2 performances daily and plenty of seating in the circus tent. We didn’t have to queue for very long at all and the performers were there to greet us and wave goodbye, which we thought was a lovely touch.

The "Sea Lion Show" was my personal favourite. Even though we had seen them before, we managed to get front row seats (where you may get wet!) this time and a chance to get up close and learn more about these amazing animals and watch their impressive tricks. There are 2 displays daily with plenty of outdoor seating and space for buggies at the top row.

There is also the option to watch the "Parrot Show” which we didn’t join this time as the kids were eager to go on more rides.

For those looking to relax and take in the scenery, the scenic train rides around the park offered a peaceful interlude. It allowed us to appreciate the park's picturesque setting and lush greenery while recharging for more adventures.

The park is clean and has well-maintained grounds, ideal for a family picnic on the lush green grassed areas. We noticed that some of the paint on equipment has faded and some of the facilities looked tired and are in need of refurbishment, bearing in mind the park has been open since 1983. Some of the rides have had a major revamp this year and we could see that the management are making an effort keeping the park looking modern and fresh.

Restrooms have got baby changing facilities and there are plenty of outdoor and covered picnic areas. There are also plenty of restaurants, snack bars and ice cream vans, much to the children’s delight!

Moreover, the park's website www.pleasurewoodhills.com is user-friendly and the map we received on arrival provided all the necessary information about attractions, and show times.

Overall, our experience at Pleasurewood Hills was nothing short of fantastic. We highly recommend this amusement park to anyone looking to create unforgettable memories and embark on an adventure-filled day!

A huge shout-out to the dedicated staff and management for maintaining such a fantastic amusement park. We can't wait to return for another day of exhilarating rides and joyful moments at Pleasurewood Hills!
