Review: Orchard Toys My First Snakes and Ladders, worth £12.00

Review by VIP Club Member Charlotte Meyers

What a great little game!

Aimed at younger children to introduce them to board games, it is a great way to encourage turn taking and (hopefully!) the concept of not always being the winner!

Rather than going up to 100 like in normal snakes and ladders, this goes up to 30, which is a lot better to keep younger ones engaged for longer.

The game pieces are really sweet too and add a cutesy element, they feature four different animals in cars which are made out of sturdy cardboard making them easy to use and guide along the board game. They were a bit fiddly for my child to set up so they may need adult assistance with adding the base to each one before playing.

The board has a road that follows the numbering and the idea is that the cars drive along the road to reach the house on the last square. The road helps guide your child through the game so they have a better idea of which square is next once they roll and it helped my son know which way to go once he got to the end of each row.

The game is aimed at children aged 3-6 but I thinks it is better suited for the lower end of this age bracket. My 4 year old has played the original snakes and ladders before but this lends itself well to shorter and more enjoyable gaming. It also helps that the snakes are not as long as the ones in the original so, even if you have to go down one, you still have a good chance of winning.

The board game is assembled together like a puzzle which is another fun element to it.

I would give it 4.5/5 as I think it won't be long before my little one would prefer a longer game, but it is a great introduction to board games.
