Review: Orchard Toys Buzz Words, worth £9.75
Review by VIP Club Member Antonella MezzapesaBuzz Words is an engaging and interactive word-building game for children aged 5+. The set includes 16 words with matching pictures, 60 letter buttons, four play boards, and a timer. It can be played individually or in a group, making it a versatile tool for both home learning and classroom settings.
One of the standout features of Buzz Words is its ability to support early literacy skills in a fun way. The game encourages children to recognise letters, match them to words, and improve their spelling. The clear and colourful pictures help with word recognition, while the black-and-white letter buttons aid concentration.
Its structured yet flexible design makes it great for homework reinforcement. The timer adds excitement, encouraging children to think quickly.
A minor limitation is that the words are mostly four to five letters long, which may not be challenging enough for older children. However, this can be overcome by introducing new words, though the available letter buttons may not be sufficient for larger groups. Another small issue is the lack of a separate storage box for the letters—if the main box is dropped, picking them up can be frustrating.
I also tried this game with my 3-year-old daughter. While she couldn’t fully play by the rules, she enjoyed matching letters to words and started to recognize phonics, showing it can benefit younger children too.
Overall, Buzz Words is excellent value for money. It blends fun with learning and, with a few minor tweaks, could suit an even wider age range. I highly recommend it for families and educators looking to support early literacy skills.
