Review: My Amazing Autistic Brain Book
Review by Lou at Toddle About HQ

My Amazing Autistic Brain is a beautifully illustrated, uplifting book that helps children explore what autism means in a friendly, understandable and accessible way. It uses playful characters, which are a colourful cast of little monsters, to show that everyone on the autism spectrum is unique, with both challenges and strengths. The book’s tone is positive and empowering, celebrating neurodiversity and encouraging kids to feel confident and proud of who they are.
As a parent, I found this book especially valuable because it opened the door to meaningful conversations with my son about his own diagnosis. At 11 years old, Joey was genuinely interested in learning more about autism, and this book made it understandable without being overwhelming. It helped him recognise that his way of thinking, with his “amazing autistic brain”, is neither strange nor something to hide, but something with real strengths and worth.
What I loved most:
Positive framing: The book focuses on strengths and individuality rather than difficulties alone, which felt validating for my son.
Conversation starter: The colourful illustrations and simple explanations made it easier for him to understand and allowed us to talk about topics that are sometimes hard to put into words.
Inclusivity: It gently highlights that everyone is different and autism is just one of many ways brains can work.
Whether your child is newly diagnosed or simply curious about what autism means, My Amazing Autistic Brain offers an encouraging and age‑friendly way to explore identity, difference, and self‑acceptance. It’s a lovely resource for families, schools, and anyone looking for a positive introduction to autism from a child‑centred perspective.
This book is released on the 12th March 2026.
