Review: Kikidex Magnetic Drawing Board, worth £24.99
Review by VIP Club Member Emily Hillery
We were very happy to be chosen to review the Kikidex Magnetic Drawing Board. Our son is 16 months and is at the age that he is in to everything. What I particularly loved about this product was it allowed him to draw and get creative without making a mess, which I am sure we can all agree is a bonus!
The drawing unit itself came with 4 'legs' that could be attached to raise it off of the ground and allow it to be used at different angles. I must say, I found these hard to attach and the instructions were not very clear. After eventually attaching them and handing it to our son, he immediately used it as a stool to try and climb on things so off they came! I can't comment on the weight this could support but lets just say we didn't want to find out! After the legs had been removed he got right to getting creative! He really seemed to love that the pen marks change colours as you draw across the board, making it visually more interesting. My husband and I had a go (of course) and t's not easy to draw derailed pictures so really won't be suitable for older kids who want to draw in finer lines etc.
When it came to 'erasing' his masterpiece, you slide the slider across the bottom and it magically disappears (he didn't get the hang of this himself). I would say that if you leave the image on for a prolonged period of time (say overnight) it becomes harder to erase (you have to swipe back and fourth multiple times) and it can still be seen although faded. Since writing this review, Toddle About HO have been informed that the product has been upgraded to rectify this issue so it no longer has any issues with the erasing.
A big plus is that the pen is attached to the unit so cannot be lost and the string meets guidelines so it can't be wrapped around a neck etc which is always a worry with anything involving string or cord.
All in all I can see our little one reaching for this again and again (he already has) and that it will last a reasonable length of time as he hones his drawing skills and works out how to erase the image.
Due to the little flaws mentioned (legs hard to attach and image hard to erase if left) I would give it 4 stars.
