Review: Happy Linen Co. Weighted Blanket, worth £35

A few months back, a friend and I were chatting about sensory products for children, and she introduced me to the concept of weighted blankets. I was intrigued—I'd never heard of them before. After a little research, I found out that weighted blankets can help increase serotonin, aiding relaxation, promoting a sense of security, and supporting better sleep by helping kids fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. It sounded like something we just had to try!

Happy Linen Co. kindly sent us one of their 3.3kg weighted blankets. We chose a timeless star design, which is both beautiful and versatile. Although these blankets are typically geared toward younger children, I intended it for my youngest, who is now 8 years old.

The package arrived quickly, neatly packed in a reusable zip-up storage bag.

Right away, I noticed the material was soft and luxurious to touch, but, as expected, it was quite heavy! The blanket has beads inside that distribute the weight comfortably across the body, and it even came with a mini teddy blanket—a thoughtful touch that we appreciated.

At bedtime, I didn’t explain the blanket's purpose to my son; I simply draped it over him. His initial reaction was, "That's too heavy!" and he took it off. But his curiosity piqued my 13-year-old son’s interest. He tried it and was instantly hooked. While the blanket was obviously a bit small for him, he felt it cocooned him, creating a sense of calm and security. He doesn’t need any help staying asleep—typical teenager!—but it did help him fall asleep faster, something he often struggles with.

The following night, my younger son wanted to give it a go, not wanting to miss out. He loved it! He slept soundly and even drifted off quicker than usual. Now both boys are taking turns each night with the blanket, and it’s clear that we might need another one soon. The blanket genuinely seems to improve sleep quality and ease anxiety.

In short, the weighted blanket has become a favourite in our home, delivering on its promises of comfort and calm. If you’re curious about the benefits, I’d definitely recommend giving one a try.
