Review: Dick Whittington at the Corn Exchange
By The Dowling Family.
A Family-Friendly Theatre Experience: Laughter, Music, and Memorable Moments at Dick Whittington at the Corn Exchange.
Getting to the Corn Exchange couldn’t have been easier, thanks to the conveniently located parking right next door. We were pleasantly surprised by how stress-free the experience was, which is always a bonus when you’re heading out with the kids. Once inside, we found a welcoming atmosphere with plenty to keep everyone happy before the show began. There were drinks and snacks available for purchase, and even some games to keep the little ones entertained while we waited for the performance to start. The organisers really seemed to have thought about making the experience enjoyable for families.
As we were ushered in, we were greeted warmly by the staff, setting the tone for the evening. The theatre itself isn’t huge, which was a big plus because it meant we knew we’d have a great view of the stage no matter where we were seated. For families with smaller children, the free booster seats available were an excellent touch, ensuring that even the youngest members of the audience could fully enjoy the performance.
The show itself was absolutely hilarious. From start to finish, it was packed with energy, laughter, and fun. There was so much singing and dancing, featuring a mix of well-known songs that had both kids and adults tapping their feet. The children were completely captivated, laughing, dancing, and clapping along throughout the performance. What really stood out was the level of audience participation. There were plenty of moments where we felt like we were part of the story, and the performers made it easy to feel like we were truly on a journey with them.
For the grown-ups, there was an extra layer of entertainment with clever innuendos sprinkled throughout the show. These moments were subtle enough to go over the children’s heads but provided a good laugh for the adults in the audience. The cast was nothing short of fantastic. Each actor brought their character to life with so much enthusiasm, and their performances were supported by stunning costumes and excellent singing.
Overall, the experience was a perfect mix of humour, music, and storytelling that appealed to all ages. It’s not often you find a show that keeps kids completely engaged while also entertaining the adults, but this production nailed it. We left the Corn Exchange feeling uplifted and already planning our next visit!
