Book Review: Time for Bed, Zippy by Kellie Jones, worth £10.99

Review:

We read the trio ‘Rainbow’ series books, ‘Let’s Play, George!’, ‘I love You, Bungle!’ and ‘Time for Bed, Zippy!’.

My nearly 3-year-old and 18-month-old boys love these books! The character hand puppets engaged them both from the get-go, and are beautiful soft and tactile for little hands to investigate. We loved setting Zippy ‘free’ by unzipping his mouth and getting ready for the story to start.

The books are fantastic for both age groups - the concepts of playing with friends, cheering friends up, and settling down for bedtime are very gentle and relatable. Each page encourages interaction and we especially loved using the puppet to express the character’s feelings (eg shaking the head; giving a nose kiss) and counting and singing.

The language is simple and there are nice pieces of grammar, if we want to look at quotation and exclamation marks.

We currently read these as the trio when winding down for bed, and finish with Zippy settling down to sleep. They will be a firm favourite for a while!
