Spring Craft: Homemade Bird Feeder

Make a homemade bird feeder and invite birds into your garden!

What You’ll Need:

  • Empty juice carton (washed and dried)
  • A pen, ruler & scissors
  • String
  • A wooden skewer or stick
  • Paint (acrylic is best)
  • Birdseed

Method:

1: Draw a window shape on one side of the carton, leaving a 1” or bigger gap at the bottom. For small birds, a hole of 1” diameter is good. Bigger for larger birds.

2: Cut along the lines with scissors to remove the window piece. This might be a grown-up job!

4: Paint your carton to brighten up the birdhouse. Let your creativity shine!

5: Once the paint is dry, make a small hole just below your window using a pen or scissors. Then push the wooden skewer or stick right through to create a little perch.

6: Carefully poke 2 holes at the top of your carton; thread some string through the holes and tie to create a loop.

7: Fill the bottom with birdseed, then find a sheltered and safe spot to hang it outside. Now wait for the birds to arrive!
