Discover the Magic of the Just So Festival 2023: A Family Adventure Like No Other

By Tim Freed

Nestled in the heart of the enchanting Rode Hall Estate in Scholar Green, Cheshire, the Just So Festival is an annual, weekend-long celebration that promises an imaginative outdoor family adventure like no other.

Having attended this festival with my wife and three children for the past several years (barring the COVID lockdowns), I can wholeheartedly vouch for its charm, creativity, and the sheer joy it brings to families.

Why Just So Festival is a Must-Visit for Families with Young Children:

  1. It's All About You!
The festival's magic truly comes alive with its intrepid explorers - you and your family. Whether you're juggling, singing, or sharing stories around the campfire, the festival encourages everyone to bring their unique skills and talents. It's a space where your family's spirit shines the brightest.

  2. Activities Galore:
Whether it's workshops, music sessions, theatrical performances, bands or storytelling, there's something for everyone. Most activities at the festival don't require prior booking, so you can wander round and join in whatever tickles your fancy.

  3. The Tribal Tournament:
Make sure you pick your tribe before you leave (go Owls!!) and prepare costumes so you can really get involved with the festival's Tribal Tournament! Don't worry about looking weird - if you're not dressed up, you'll be the odd one out! It's so much fun, with a parade on the Sunday evening to announce the winning tribe for 2023.

  4. A Home Away From Home:
The festival takes pride in its location at the Rode Hall Estate. The beautiful parkland setting offers a serene backdrop for camping, ensuring you're close to nature. And for those with campervans or caravans, there's a dedicated area just for you!

  5. Safety First:
With wristbands provided upon entry and a vigilant team on-site, the festival ensures the safety of its attendees. Parents can write their mobile numbers on their children's wristbands, ensuring peace of mind throughout the event.

  6. Accessibility:
The festival site is designed keeping little adventurers in mind. Hard-standing paths make it easy for pushchairs and wheelchairs. And while most areas are accessible, some spots in the Spellbound Forest might require a baby carrier or sling.

  7. Food, Glorious Food:
While you're welcome to bring your own food and drinks (minus the glass for safety reasons), the festival boasts a variety of seriously yummy street food and drink vendors. And yes, there are licensed bars on-site for the adults!

  8. For the Tiny Tots:
The festival ensures that even the youngest attendees have a memorable time. The Peekaboo area offers a dedicated nappy-changing tent, a baby-feeding area with bottle and food warmers, and a special baby bathtime session with baby baths and bubbles.

  9. Eco-Friendly:
The festival is committed to leaving no trace. Attendees are encouraged to separate their waste for recycling, ensuring a minimal environmental footprint.

  10. A Community Spirit:
The festival's ethos revolves around respect, kindness, and community. That's not just a soundbite. From my experience, the festival creates a unique space where everyone is accepted for who they are, and everyone looks out for each another, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
