A children’s picture book promoting the joys of boredom comes to the rescue as parents search for new ways to keep their children entertained during lockdown
Written by Ingrid Chabbert and illustrated by Sébastien Chebret, I Love to be Bored is an eye-opening, game-changing book for children aged 2 to 5, which celebrates boredom and the way it creates a much-needed pause.
Boredom can be a meditation. Boredom can be fun! Boredom can be a doorway to all sorts of adventures and daydreams. Or, so thinks the main character of the picture book I Love to be Bored. When she’s bored, she loves it – her mind wanders and she can notice the world with fresh eyes. With nothing to do, she can do anything!
This delightful book supports the concept that boredom can equal mental freedom, an idea that is especially important for children whose over-scheduled lives and too much screen-time rarely allow time for much-needed, beautiful boredom.
I Love to be Bored is available in paperback from 30th July 2020 from Upside Down Books for £7.99. Pre-order from the Trigger Publishing website.
About the author and illustrator
Ingrid Chabbert was born in 1978 in Aveyron, France and lives today in Carcassonne, France surrounded by all her dogs. She loves to play with words and talk about life, with all its joys and torments. Chabbert’s debut picture book was released in 2010 and in 2016 she began publishing comics for both children and adults.
After obtaining a masters in sculpture, illustrator Sébastien Chebret continued in 2007 to earn a degree in the arts with a focus on children’s illustration. His style incorporates a bit of everything and mixes different techniques: digital, gouache, acrylic, watercolour and collage (especially with antique papers from flea markets).
