Mother's Embrace - Pregnancy, Birth & Postnatal Services

Hi,

I’m Emma, a Shaftesbury-based Doula, Hypnobirthing teacher, and Breastfeeding Peer Supporter. I’m passionate about every family having access to evidence-based information to support them in making informed choices about their care. I believe birth is truly magical and the greatest honour to bear witness to.

I’m mum to two beautiful boys, and our family has just returned to Dorset after a year living in Malta! I love being out in nature and connecting with the world, I love stories in any form, I’m passionate about music and if you chose to have me as your Doula you’ll probably hear me before you see me!

Before having my own children, I worked as a qualified primary teacher, but having left to have my first son I’ve not felt it the right fit to return to. Following my first birth I trained as a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter and since then my passion for supporting women and their families during the transition from pregnancy to baby has grown. Doula work feels like my true calling – it brings together all my passions of education, families, babies, woman-to-woman peer support, advocacy and maternal mental health – and I feel unbelievably lucky to get to work with incredible women and their families during such a special time.

Matrescence is a monumental transition which deserves support and recognition to enable you to step into the role of a mother with all the tools you need, as well as a village to rely on. Childbirth is a truly transformative experience and forms part of an intense rite of passage into parenthood. Surrounding yourself with the right people can have a huge impact on your feelings of safety and ability to stay calm, relaxed and focused during labour – all things which are crucial to the release of oxytocin required to support labour’s progress.

As your Doula I can offer Antenatal, Labour & Birth, and Postnatal support in person, or virtually. I also teach Hypnobirthing courses which can be added to any other services or taken as a stand-alone course.
