Founded in 2004 by Maureen Treadwell and Debbie Sayers, the Birth Trauma Association is a small but influential charity, working to support women and families who have experienced traumatic birth.
We believe we were the first charity in the world dedicated to providing this support – though since then we have been pleased to see similar charities launched in other countries. Although we are still a small charity, we believe we punch above our weight. In 2023, we became the secretariat to the first all-party parliamentary group (APPG) on birth trauma, and to the influential inquiry the APPG ran in 2024.
We work in three areas: supporting parents with birth trauma, policy and research and campaigns. Support is available over email from a team of peer supporters, all of whom have experienced traumatic ibrth. The team includes two dads, who are happy to support other dads. We also have a very active private Facebook group where parents offer support to each other. You can find it at www.facebook.com/groups/thebta
