Review: Orchard Toys The World of Peter Rabbit Collection, worth £32

Review by VIP Club Member Anna Lord

The Orchard Toys “The World of Peter Rabbit” puzzles for children aged 3+ are boxed in eye catching, colourful and vibrant packs which show pictures of Peter Rabbit and friends, familiar characters easily recognised by children. All the games/puzzles are manufactured in durable card and continue to delight children and adults alike with more colourful images. Each game would make a perfect birthday or Christmas gift for a child from 3 -5 years and older depending on their ability.

FISH AND COUNT

A fun counting game ideal for adults to play with little ones and develop their counting skills. Numbers are clearly shown on the spinner which a child can learn and start to recognise and then the corresponding number of beetles can be found on cards by counting them with assistance. Finally at the end of the game the number of fish on cards need to be counted to ascertain everyone’s total and choose the winner. Two of the Beetle cards when overturned show the dreaded “stickleback” which looks more like a piraña fish and if you are unlucky enough to turn one up it eats all the fishes you have collected and you lose them all! We found this very difficult  to explain to a little one who is expecting to win!

VEG PATCH LOTTO

An attractive memory game which requires a child to match cards they overturn to pictures of veg on their character board as well as focusing on cards overturned by others to win them for themselves. The winner is the one who completes their card first. Adults by saying the name of the veg as cards are overturned can reinforce a child’s memory as well as teach them the names of vegetables.  Excitement is added to the game by the danger of picking up a scarecrow card because if the scarecrow card is completed first Mr McGregor wins!!

4-IN-A- BOX PUZZLES

Four jigsaw puzzles of 12, 16,18 and 24 pieces are contained in one box easily separated because all the pieces are colour coded on the back. Each puzzle depicts a season with delightful scenes so once the puzzle is completed, a child can guess or learn the season and discuss the picture learning what happens in each season of the year which expands their vocabulary and develops their counting and observation skills.

I rate these puzzles 5 out of 5  and would certainly recommend them to others seeking educational games for 3-year olds up to early school age.
