Review: Janod - Threading Beads Vegetable Garden, worth £13
Review by VIP Club Member Lily Rose
We had the opportunity to try out the Janod Threading Beads with our two year old, and our expectations were well exceeded!
The first thing you'll notice is that the beads are made of wood, not plastic. As wood is naturally antibacterial, durable, and more environmentally sustainable than plastic, thats a big win in our book. Each piece is also a good size. They're not too big for smaller hands to hold, but not small enough to present a real choking hazard.
The wooden beads are different themed shapes consisting of a tractor, a scarecrow, and nine different fruits and vegetables. You are given two threading cords for play, which was really nice as it meant I could play along with my daughter. I was able to show her how to thread a piece on the cord, and she could copy me with her own. This would also be beneficial if two children wanted to play together while the supervising adult can at least attempt to get five minutes to themselves. Each threading cord has a long aglet on each end, which is perfect to get through the pieces that need the extra length. The holes in the pieces are in varied locations. This means some pieces may be a bit more challenging to get the cord all the way through. Some pieces you thread longways, others short.
I'm really impressed with this item. I have seen similar toys that include cards with patterns to follow, so the child has the added challenge of trying to string the pieces on in a certain order. I think something like that would really complete this item. However, I've found no faults in what I received. Even without any further accessories, I still give this toy five out of five stars!
