I hold a degree in Early Years Childhood Studies, I've played guitar for over 25 years and I worked in Nurseries for nearly 13 years. In that time, I introduced my guitar to the children, developing a set-list of songs and activities that they really enjoy.
There is one question that I heard about 30 times a day in my experience in nurseries, and that is “Keir, have you brought your a-tar in today?”. Whilst some children may struggle to pronounce guitar correctly, I've yet to meet a child who struggles to engage in the music.
Not only do I cover traditional nursery rhymes, but I play and sing more contemporary rock/pop songs with the children. All music has value!
I have found that both children and their parents enjoy these songs, singing them at home can really help in developing the children's language and creative skills – with songs you will love!
